FAQ's
What oil can you put in a bath?
Floral notes like Lavender, Ylang Ylang, Roman or German Chamomile are classic essential oils for a relaxing bath. If you’re after something more uplifting, citrus oils such as Grapefruit, Lemon or Bergamot add a light, zesty aroma to your bath soaks. Meanwhile, woody oils like Cedarwood, Frankincense, Patchouli or Sandalwood bring depth and warmth. You can enjoy them on their own or combine a few together for a personalised bath blend.
When crafting DIY personal care products, always choose third-party tested oils to guarantee quality and safety. At N-essentials, our safe essential oils for bath are rigorously tested for consistency and purity, ensuring your peace of mind.
How can I dilute essential oils for a bath?
A good rule of thumb when creating your own bath blend is to start with just one essential oil and always dilute it in a carrier oil before adding it to the water, as essential oils can sit on the surface of the water and cling directly to your skin.
To prepare your mix, measure out a carrier oil such as Jojoba, Almond or fractionated Coconut, then add a few drops of your chosen essential oil. Stir or shake gently to combine before pouring it into the running bath water. This method helps the oils disperse evenly.
Aim for a ratio of 1 to 4 per cent essential oil in your blend. As a guide, for every 10 ml (2 teaspoons) of carrier oil, you can add:
- 1% dilution — 3 drops essential oil
- 2% dilution — 6 drops essential oil
- 3% dilution — 9 drops essential oil
- 4% dilution — 12 drops essential oil
What is the best carrier oil for bathroom essential oils?
When making an essential oil blend for baths, the carrier oil you choose can shape both the texture and the experience. Jojoba oil is a popular choice as it mimics the skin’s natural oils and absorbs quickly. For something light and silky, Sweet Almond oil works beautifully. Fractionated Coconut oil is another favourite thanks to its smooth texture and easy blending. If you prefer a simple and nourishing bathroom essential oil blend, Grapeseed or Olive oil are also excellent options.
Whichever carrier oil you select, always mix it with your essential oils before adding to your bath. Blending first ensures the oils disperse properly in the water, helping you better enjoy the aroma during your ritual.
