4 Essential Ingredients for a Fresh Eye Serum For Spring!

We all know that a good skincare routine is good for you. Not only does it help keep your skin stay healthy and hydrated but having good skin can also be good for your self esteem and self confidence. If you walk down the skincare aisle of your local supermarket you are likely to be overwhelmed with the number of different products on the market and confused about which ones are good for you and which ones are full of good ingredients and those that are not.

Unless you have a science degree and can understand each and every one of the ingredients included in the store- bought products, you may end up with a product that has ingredients in it that are not all that good for your skin. Luckily there are a lot of homemade remedies that you can make for your skincare routine which are full of natural and healthy ingredients. We love the idea of creating your own eye serum and we recommend making one with  Vitamin C powder.

What does an eye serum do?

A serum is a lighter option than a cream and is designed to target things like fine lines, puffiness and dark circles. Some eye serums are also designed to help to hydrate the area around the eyes and increase the firmness of the delicate skin around the eyes.

What is Vitamin C good for?

Vitamin C has become increasingly popular for its anti-ageing properties. It is known to help with maintaining a smooth-looking, even and glowing complexion. Even though you are probably consuming an amount of Vitamin C through your diet, there is no guarantee that it is going to your skin. This is why adding a Vitamin C based serum to your skincare routine will help with ensuring it is getting directly to where it is needed.

How do I make a Vitamin C serum?

Use the following ingredients:

  • 1 tsp vitamin C powder
  • 2TB aloe vera gel
  • 1 tsp filtered water
  • ΒΌ tsp vitamin E oil

  • Instructions:

    1. In a small bowl, combine the  vitamin C powder and filtered water.
    2. Whisk the ingredients until the  vitamin C powder is completely dissolved.
    3. Once dissolved, stir in the  aloe vera gel and vitamin E oil.
    4. Pour the serum into a dark amber bottle (a funnel helps).
    5. Store the serum in the fridge for 1-2 weeks

    How do I use it?

The serum is best used before bed. Start your nighttime routine by washing and drying your face. If you use a toner than this is your next step. After using your toner, it is time to break out the eye serum. Use a small amount under each eye before finishing with your facial moisturiser. The reason that it is best to use the Vitamin C serum at night rather than in the day is because of the sun exposure that will happen during the day, by applying at night you are not over powering the amount of Vitamin C you are receiving at once.

Remember that when making your own products you know exactly what is going in them, the costs are a lot lower and you can tailor the product to suit your routine. A good skincare routine is more than just healthy skin, it is the first step to higher self confidence and self esteem.
