WHAT IS lemon eucalyptus essential OIL?

Lemon eucalyptus oil comes from the wood and leaves of Eucalyptus Citriodora, a tree native to Australia. The oil has a distinct, eucalyptus-like smell with a lemon undertone that could best be described as sweet and fresh. It is pale yellow in colour with a thin consistency. It is composed of 80% citronellal, an aldehyde that is strongly responsible for its aroma. In general, it is a versatile product by any means with a variety of uses and impressive benefits. You will find that this oil is everywhere from personal care uses to household products.

lemon eucalyptus OIL BENEFITS

The cleansing and clarifying properties of lemon eucalyptus oil is beneficial for our skin. It can remove skin impurities and, at the same time, moisturise. Regular application will improve the skin’s appearance looking revitalised. For topical application, add a few drops of diluted oil into your preferred moisturiser or lotion. Gently massage the blend regularly to obtain results. You can also opt to add a few drops of the oil during warm baths.

Furthermore, being a natural insecticide, this germicidal oil can assist our hair in eliminating lice infestation. When used topically for hair nourishment, the oil is capable of moisturising our scalp whilst simultaneously removing dandruff flakes.

Lemon eucalyptus oil can commonly be found in household products, especially insect repellents. The significant content of citronellal is what makes this oil extremely effective in warding off insects. This oil has gained praise by being a viable replacement for dangerous insecticides sold in the market.

In addition to this, the oil is convenient in eliminating odour thereby freshening the smell of rooms. For household disinfectants, the antimicrobial properties of the oil work effectively as well. It can be a replacement for harsh, chemical cleaners. For application, blend a cup of water, 2-3 tablespoons of white vinegar, and a few drops of said oil to wipe down surfaces.

    Insect repellent capability

Published by Daren on 9th Sep 2020

This isn't effective as an insect repellent; unlike Oil of Lemon Eucalyptus (OLE) this product doesn't contain any P-Menthane 3,8-diol (PMD) which is the active insect repellent agent that is approved by center of disease control (CDC). Lemon eucalyptus essential oil is not effective in repelling mosquitoes. >>>>N-essentials: Thanks for your feedback. Please note that trace elements of P-Menthane 3,8-diol (PMD) are typically very low in Lemon Eucalyptus essential oils and in the case of our current batch, the GC Analysis did not capture this. This does not mean that our Lemon Eucalyptus essential oil do not have traces of this component as the sample tested has very low concentrations. In any case, P-Menthane 3,8-diol (PMD) and the other components such as the citronellol content in the oil add to the insect repellent properties. As for being an effective mosquito repellent, you will need to have high trace elements of P-Menthane 3,8-diol (PMD) of which this essential oil do not provide as it has typically a concentration of less than 2%. In order to obtain higher concentrations of PMD content, the Lemon Eucalyptus essential oil would have needed to be purified and refined to reduce the citronellal content while increasing the PMD content. But our 100% pure Lemon Eucalyptus essential oil has not gone through this purified and refining process and hence our pure product is not suitable for your application.

Like Marisa I bought the oil to make up some insect repellent as I am sensitive to midge bites. So far so good but have to wait until the weather heats up a bit to judge. The oil itself has a strong scent so appears to be of concentrated pure quality. Thinner consistency than some of the other EOs but the description identifies this peculiarity. Appealing labeling and branding.
