Steam-distilled from Eucalyptus citriodora, this pale yellow oil runs at roughly 80% citronellal and carries a sweet citrus aroma over a fresh herbal base. PLEASE NOTE

This is a pure essential oil, not an insect repellent. It does not contain PMD (p-menthane-3,8-diol), which is the registered repellent compound in the product sold as Oil of Lemon Eucalyptus (OLE). The two are different materials with similar names. Use this oil for aroma, not for protection.

COMMON USES & APPLICATIONS

Aromatherapy and diffusing

• Diffuser blends: 3 to 5 drops for a fresh citrus aroma with a herbal edge. Pair with cedarwood or lavender to soften it, or peppermint to sharpen it.
• Room and linen sprays: Blended with water and a solubiliser for a light scent across rooms, linen and soft furnishings.
• Candle and soap making: Holds its citrus character well in cold process soap, melt and pour bases and wax blends.

DIY home cleaning

• Surface sprays: Added to a water and vinegar base for a citrus-scented wipe-down spray.
• Bin and drain freshening: A few drops on a cloth or down the drain to cut stale odours.
• Laundry: A few drops on a wool dryer ball or in a final rinse for scented linen.

Outdoor and patio sprays

• Scented patio sprays: Used in citronella-style scented sprays and outdoor candles for its aroma. This oil is a fragrance ingredient, not a repellent.
• Outdoor body oils and sprays: Diluted to a maximum of 0.5% in leave-on skin formulations for scent.

HOW TO USE & DILUTION LIMITS

• Leave-on skin formulations: Up to 0.5%
• Wash-off products and diffuser blends: Up to 1%
• Never apply neat to skin. Dilute in a carrier oil such as fractionated coconut, jojoba or sweet almond before any skin contact.
• Essential oils do not dissolve in water. For a spray that stays mixed, use a solubiliser such as polysorbate 20 at roughly the same weight as the oil, or shake thoroughly before every use.

DIY surface spray

• 1 cup water
• 2 tablespoons white vinegar
• 12 drops lemon eucalyptus essential oil

Combine in a glass spray bottle, shake before each use and wipe with a clean cloth. Test an inconspicuous spot first and keep this blend away from natural stone benchtops, as vinegar can etch the surface.

TIPS FOR BEST RESULTS

• Add the oil to the vinegar first, then top up with water, which disperses it more evenly than adding it to water alone.
• Make small batches of water-based sprays and use them within a few weeks.
• In soap, add at trace at 2% to 3% of the oil weight for a scent that carries through the cure.
• Decant into smaller bottles as you use the oil down, since less head space means slower oxidation.
• Keep a record of your blend ratios so you can repeat a scent you like.
