Keep Your Skin Hydrated During Summer

Published by N-Essentials Team on 18th Jan 2022

Keeping your skin hydrated and fresh during the summer months can be difficult, especially if you are spending a lot of time outside and in the heat of the day.

Most people find it hard to keep their skin hydrated and fresh during warmer months especially if you are spending a lot of time outside and in the heat of the day. It is important that you are looking after your skin and making sure that you are keeping it hydrated to avoid it to dry out, become red and itchy.

Harmful rays of the sun can cause it to dry out and worse, skin damage. You certainly wouldn't want that to happen.

Worry not. At N-essentials, we always try to make sure that we provide you with ideas on how to make you look and feel good with our simple DIY natural moisturizers. We believe that it is always best to take advantage of the benefits that nature provides and avoid products that are actually full of harmful chemicals.

Why should I use a moisturizer?

Using a moisturizer has many benefits for your skin. The main benefit of using a moisturizer is to provide the skin the hydration it needs and thus, making it look fresh. It also helps to keep your skin looking nice and soft, free from the "oily face" look, blemishes and reduce redness and dryness of the skin.

Which moisturizer is best?

There is a number of different moisturizers on the market and they can be tailored to focus on different benefits for the skin.

During the summer months, we recommend using a moisturizer that is thicker, more like body butter and is able to be used as a thick cream. The reason for this is that it will be able to help hold the moisture in the skin better and help with the hydration process.

Also, be wise enough to choose a moisturizer that is suitable for your skin. Moisturizers are good but moisturizers with sun protection are much better. There is a vast selection with which to choose from and it could either be in the form of a lotion or even creams.

Before anything else, however, it is recommended to do an allergy patch test before using any sort of moisturizer. This helps avoid possible adverse reactions to new ingredients or products.

Check out below a great and easy recipe for a homemade hydrating cream that will keep you feeling fresh and hydrated all through summer.

HOMEMADE MOISTURIZER

1/2 cup shea butter

2 TB oil of choice

(Recommended oils to choose from: jojoba, coconut, avocadoalmond or grapeseed)

Method:

In a double boiler (a glass bowl over a pot filled 1/4 the way full with water), over medium-low heat, melt the shea butter. Once melted add in the nourishing skin oil.Turn off the heat and move the mixture to a bowl.Place the bowl in the fridge or freezer and allow it to cool and begin to form a solid form again (not too hard). Once the mixture is opaque and slightly firm remove the bowl from the freezer and add in your essential oils. Whip the mixture with a fork or whisk until the oils are all combined with the shea butter mix. Scoop into a jar and store at room temperature.

Additionally, learn to hydrate and nourish yourself by drinking plenty of liquid and eating the right kind of food for your body. Make sure that your body is in healthy condition to achieve glowing results!
