  • Colour:Light brown to dark brown
  • Source: Ghana

African black soap, also called anago soap, alata samina or ose dudu, is a plant-based soap that originated in West Africa.  The soap is made using traditional methods with 100% natural ingredients that are sourced in Ghana.

The texture of African black soap is soft, crumbly, and pliable. It has no odour and varies in colour from beige/light brown to dark brown depending on the raw ingredients used. The soap contains saponified coconut oil, saponified palm kernel oil, saponified shea nut butter (50%), and cocoa pod ash. These ingredients blended well together produces an all-natural cleanser, moisturiser and exfoliator that is suitable for almost any skin types.

  • Multifaceted skin perks: African black soap is known to be a multi-tasking skin care product. It has natural cleansing, moisturising and clarifying properties that are highly effective for keeping your skin looking fresh and glowing.
  • Natural: It contains absolutely no chemicals and is naturally fragrance-free which benefits dry or sensitive skin.  If you have oily or combination skin, African black soap works best for you. It helps balance your skin's natural oil production without even stripping necessary oils which in return, prevents overactive oil glands.
  • Exfoliant: African black soap is a natural cleanser and exfoliator. As you may know, if the dead skin cells from the body are not removed thoroughly, it clogs the pores and causes bumps. African black soap will help prevent that from happening. It has fine grains of natural ash that act as a gentle and effective exfoliant. It helps remove the top layer of dead skin cells, leaving a brighter and smoother-looking skin complexion.

The most important thing about African Black soap is that a little goes a long way, and too much of it may dry up already parched skin. Here is a step-by-step process of utilising this wonderful soap:

  • Moisten your skin with water.
  • Wet the bar soap until it forms a lather.
  • Circularly wash your skin for 90 seconds with the soap on your hands, avoiding the parts around your eyes.
  • If you want, massage your skin with an exfoliating brush or washcloth for deep cleansing.
  • Rinse with water, preferably warm.
  • Apply your favourite moisturiser if you have dry skin.

  • Can African Black Soap be used on different skin types? African black soap is known to be a universal crowd pleaser for a wide variety of skin types. Whether your skin type is normal, dry, oily, sensitive or a combination of these, black soap is your one-stop solution. However, as a general rule of thumb, always do a skin patch test when trying out a new product.
  • What are the ingredients present in this soap? Shea butter, which is the oil base, helps prevent the signs of ageing lines. It emulates your skin's natural oils to provide a hydrating, non-comedogenic effect. Palm kernel oil is also packed with high antioxidants that acts as a protection for your skin from the harmful UV rays of the sun. While coconut oil has deep moisturising properties that keeps your skin from drying out.
  • What products can I use with African Black Soap? This soap goes well with moisturisers and sunscreens infused with emollient, humectant, and occlusive ingredients. Avoid using it with chemical exfoliants as it may cause irritation.
  • How often can I use this soap? It can be used regularly, but it is better to gradually include it in your skincare regimen.

African Black soap is extremely soft, thereby, it may quickly dissolve if left standing in water or not properly stored after use.

    Trash service and delivery time

Published by Varshini kasirajan on 21st Jan 2022

It has been over 14 days since i ordered this and it still has not reached here even though i ordered EXPRESS delivery. Also i'm excited to try this product as it might help my acne! But do not buy from here if you want a quick delivery time especially during covid. >>>> N-essentials 21/1/22: Sorry to hear that you are disappointed. We can see that your order is due to be delivered to you today. We did mention on our website, that there will be delays as we tackle the backlog of of orders upon our return from our holidays. Also, we did not hear from you about your concerns for your order as we would have helped remedy the situation. Unfortunately, with the ongoing COVID situation, we were also short staff due to staff testing positive to COVID and having to isolate. These have unfortunately, impacted our turnaround times.

I have been using this for about a week now. I'm not sure whether it's placebo (I know my diet has definitely not changed) but my skin is looking and feeling so much better. It's also helped clear up the dry eczema patches on my body. Best of all, the bar is HUGE!!

I bought the 250g soap and it is huge! It’s also so easy to use and versatile. I’ve cut some into pieces and I only need a little bit so this soap will last me forever! At the moment I’ve been using it on my body and it is soft and moisturizing. Will be trying on my face soon and making a shampoo! Thanks n-essentials xx

Highly recommend, you won't regret it!

This is the second time I've bought this soap, and I always see a difference in the appearance and feel of my skin within a week. I personally use it twice a day and tone with ACV then moisturise and have gotten several compliments on my skin. I recommend that you look up other tutorials like using the soap as shampoo. As an African, I can say this is the real deal and it lasts forever. So great for you skin and back pocket haha

I only use this to clean my face and it cleans very well. The pricing is amazing for the amount of soap you get honestly.

I’ve used this for over a year. Let me say, if you want face wash that has little waste and will last you a looooooong time, then this is for you. It is so much cheaper than buying little 100mL bottles of face wash that sometimes cost $15. That’s a lot of plastic and a lot more money than you need to spend. I haven’t bothered about needing to buy face wash for so long that I completely forgot where I got this from, that’s how long ago it was. Anyway, about the product, it was huge block, so it lasted me a long time, as I said, over a year. I’d like to think that I have used this sufficiently to have my opinion very valid on this particular subject. My skin hasn’t never looked clear. It makes my face feel cleaner than ever before. I have a naturally oily face and it helped control it. People say African black soap is super drying, but everyone is different For me, I just moisturised after, just like I would with any other face wash, and my skin feels fine. My face is smoother than ever before after this product and I could not recommend this enough. Over all, this product is very effective, and also economically friendly.

Love this product! I’ve really noticed a difference with my acne scars after using it for a month. Waiting for it to be back in stock so I can buy a bigger bar!

I bought this soap for the first time about 2 weeks ago. Here were my hesitations initially I live in Kingaroy and I was worried that the order will take a while to get to me → It took just 1 week. I did think it was a bit dodgy that I had to do a bank transfer as a form of payment and I thought if I get ripped off, that will be about 50 bucks lost (1kg bar =~$36 + $15 shipping) → they didn't rip me off. I got my soap :) My face is really sensitive to face washes and it normally reacts after 1 wash. So naturally I was worried that this soap would blow my face up in pimples → I have used it 4 times now and it hasn't. My pimples are actually disappearing I was worried that the ingredients weren't actually natural since I could not find an ingredient list online → the bag as an ingredient list which is just 5 natural saponified plants I took a leap of faith a bought 1kg bar just to save on shipping incase I ended up liking the soap → best decision ever Overall, I looooove the soap. I use it as a face wash, body wash and for my hair. It's soft, lathers really easily and washes off easily without residue. I will write another review after a few months of using the soap but for now, it's a yes from me.

I've been using my African Black Soap for about a month now and have certainly noticed a difference! I tend to get hormonal breakouts and the soap has contributed towards my skin being much clearer the past few weeks. It also helped to diminish existing breakouts. It leaves my skin feeling fresh, soft and not too dry. Would absolutely recommend!!!

I liked NABS to clean my facial skin. Skin feels clean and refreshed after washing with this soap. It is a foaming soap if you prefer foaming than creme. Little bit aroma can be added in this soap e.g., Lavender or something.
