Candelilla wax is a vegetable wax that provides a vegan alternative to beeswax. It produces excellent gloss and is ideal for use where firm consistency and a high melting point is important. It has a typical melting point of between 68-73 degrees celsius. It is an emollient, humectant, an emulsifier and acts as a stabiliser in creams, lotions and salves. Unlike beeswax, Candelilla wax naturally has no fragrance. It is biologically degradable, is hypoallergenic and is suitable for DIY skincare.

Candelilla wax is a bit denser than beeswax, so you will have to adjust your DIY skincare recipes if you are substituting it for beeswax. It is recommended that you use half the amount of candelilla wax as beeswax since it has twice the stiffening powers. So if a recipe calls for 1 cup of beeswax, use 1/2 cup of candelilla wax instead.
