Cats are especially sensitive to essential oils, so it’s important to know what’s considered safer for use around cats. Oils like cedarwood (Virginian), frankincense, and chamomile are generally considered lower-risk when properly diluted and used with caution.
However, many common oils can be toxic to cats, including tea tree, eucalyptus, peppermint, clove, cinnamon, citrus oils, wintergreen, and pine.
Their unique metabolism makes them more vulnerable to certain compounds. Always store oils securely, avoid applying them to your cat or using them in closed spaces, and never let your cat ingest them.
When in doubt, talk to your vet before using essential oils around your cat. Please refer to our guide for further information.
