This recipe is a common body butter recipe that is simple and yet effective for very dry skin, particularly for heel calluses and over-used dry hands. Body butters are generally thicker and more concentrated than body lotions or body creams and when applied, the thick lotion creates a barrier between the skin and the natural elements thus providing an extra layer of protection as well as helping to hold in the skin’s natural moisture levels.
Ingredients:
- 100gms unrefined organic cocoa butter
- 100ml wheatgerm oil
- lavender essential oil: 1% of fat/oil content
- patchouli essential oil: 1% of fat/oil content
- natural vitamin E oil: 0.01%-0.2% of fat/oil content
Method:
- Put the cocoa butter in a glass container and melt on the stove in a pan of hot water.
- Once melted, allow to come down to room temperature.
- Add the vitamin E oil, wheatgerm oil and essential oils and keep stirring until the mixture is fully blended.
- Keep the glass container in the fridge for about 10 minutes.
- Whip the ingredients until a creamy mixture is formed.
- Pour the resulting body butter into an airtight jar.
Benefits:
- The cocoa butter is high in fatty acids that help to deeply hydrate very dry skin.
- Both the lavender and patchouli essential oils are very effective for rough, cracked and overly dehydrated skin.
- Wheatgerm oil is very high in vitamin E, which not only is a natural antioxidant that helps to maximise the shelf life but also prevents water loss from the skin and so helps to retain the skin’s natural moisture levels. Effectively, it makes dull, dry skin look healthy and well-moisturised.
