FAQ's
What are herbal essential oils?
Herbal oils are naturally aromatic oils extracted from the leaves, stems, bark, roots or flowers of herbs and botanicals. They capture the distinctive scent and essence of plants like Eucalyptus, Frankincense, Lemongrass, Camphor, Basil and Clary Sage. Each oil carries its own characteristic fragrance, from the crisp, camphorous scent of Eucalyptus to the earthy, resinous aroma of Frankincense.
These oils are often used in diffusers, DIY cleaning products, soaps, candles and body care formulations, where their herbal and botanical notes help create a clean, naturally fresh aroma. Herbal essential oils also blend beautifully with citrus, floral or woody oils in custom fragrances and diffuser blends.
Are herbal oils safe?
Herbal essential oils are generally safe to use when handled correctly. However, because they are highly concentrated plant extracts, they should always be used with care and proper dilution. Avoid applying undiluted essential oils directly to the skin, and keep them away from children, pets and sensitive areas such as the eyes.
When using herbal oils in diffusers, cleaning blends or personal care formulations, follow recommended usage amounts and always store them in a cool, dark place with lids tightly closed to maintain their quality and aroma. If you have specific sensitivities or health conditions, it’s best to perform a patch test before topical use or consult a qualified professional.
How do I choose high-quality herbal essential oils for aromatherapy?
Look for oils that are:
- Pure and unadulterated with no synthetic fillers or added fragrance.
- Sourced from reputable suppliers who provide transparency about origin and extraction methods.
At N-essentials, all of our aroma herbal oils are professionally sourced, plant-based, vegan-friendly and third-party tested to ensure quality. Each herbal oil is available in a range of bottle sizes, making them suitable for both DIY and commercial applications.
What is the rule for blending essential oils?
A common guideline for blending essential oils is the “30–50–20 rule”, which helps create a balanced aroma:
- 30% base notes — Rich, grounding oils such as Frankincense, Myrrh or Cedarwood
- 50% middle notes — Heart of the blend, including Clary Sage, Rosemary or Geranium
- 20% top notes — Light, bright oils like Lemongrass, Eucalyptus or Bergamot
Start with small quantities, adding a few drops at a time, and record your ratios so you can recreate blends you enjoy. Allow the mixture to rest for several hours before evaluating the scent, as aromas can shift and settle as the oils combine.
