What Is Citronella Oil Good For?

Citronella Oil Is An Excellent Insect Repellent

Mosquitoes are pesky little creatures that can ruin a good time. More than just an annoyance, mosquitoes can transmit deadly diseases like malaria, dengue fever, and the Zika virus.

Citronella oil is a natural, plant-based mosquito repellent that has been used for centuries to ward off these bloodsuckers. Our 100% pure citronella essential oil is effective against all types of mosquitoes.

Make a simple insect repellent spray by combining citronella essential oil, distilled water, witch hazel extract, and an additional essential oil such as tea tree or peppermint (for additional potent fragrance). Spray it on skin or clothing to repel bugs, but take care not to get it in or near your eyes! Always dilute your citronella essential oil, otherwise it can cause skin irritation and burning sensations.

If you’d like to turn your diffuser into a makeshift insect repeller, add three drops of lemongrass essential oil and three drops of citronella essential oil to the diffuser’s water canister. The exhilarating aroma will keep nasty creepy crawlies away!

Citronella Oil Makes A Great Deodorant

Let's face it, body odour is embarrassing and can ruin your day. Remember that if you can smell yourself a little, other people can smell you a lot! Citronella oil is a natural essential oil that helps to get rid of body odour. It has a refreshing and balanced fragrance that will make you feel confident all day long.

Adding a few drops of citronella essential oil to a carrier oil (such as coconut, argan, or castor oil) will produce an effective deodorant that you can apply delicately to any problem areas. As always, remember to dilute your citronella oil to avoid skin irritation.

Citronella Oil Can Be Used For Hair And Skincare

Summers can be tough. The heat and humidity make it hard to keep your skin looking good. Not only is it hard to keep your skin looking great, but if mosquitos love you too then that means you're always at risk of getting bit. Why not kill two birds (or bugs!) with one stone?

Citronella oil is the answer! This natural essential oil helps to condition your hair and skin while repelling mosquitos. Citronella essential oil blends perfectly with other essential oils such as eucalyptus, lavender, and geranium - combine a few drops of these with a carrier oil and you’ll find yourself with a hair and skin product that will keep you protected from insects and glowing all summer long.

Citronella Oil Can Even Be Used For Dog Training!

Nuisance barking is a huge problem for dog owners, and it can be really frustrating trying to find a way to stop your pup from barking all the time. Not only is nuisance barking annoying, but it can also be really disruptive and embarrassing. Dogs that bark constantly can keep you up at night, scare away guests, and cause other dogs to bark too.

Citronella oil is a safe and easy way to stop your dog from barking. When diluted and used in conjunction with a citronella collar or spray bottle, the oil will irritate your dog's nose each time he or she barks, discouraging them from doing so in the future!

Where Does Citronella Oil Come From?

Citronella essential oil is derived from several different types of Cymbopogon plants. Cymbopogon is better known as lemongrass, but while lemongrass roots and stems are used in cooking, citronella oil is steam-distilled from the leaves.

Forty per cent of the world’s citronella supply comes from China and Indonesia. Plenty of other countries produce citronella oil as well, including Taiwan, Sri Lanka, and India in Asia, as well as Guatemala, Argentina, Honduras, Brazil, Ecuador and Mexico in South America. African countries such as Madagascar and South Africa also contribute to global citronella production.
