YIELD
1 spray bottle (240ml)
What you will need

• ⅓ cup aloe vera gel
• ½ cup warm water
• 2 tbsp sugar
• 5 drops lavender essential oil
• 5 drops rosemary essential oil
• ½ teaspoon carrier oil (choose one):
• Apricot kernel oil - ideal for thick, coarse, dry, or curly hair.
• Fractionated coconut oil - best for fine to medium hair.
• 1 fine mist 240 ml spray bottle
Method
1
Dissolve the sugar.
In a small bowl, mix two tablespoons of sugar with half a cup of warm water. Stir well until the sugar completely dissolves, this helps create a smooth base for the spray. If you want to speed things up, place the bowl in the fridge for about 3 - 4 minutes to cool.
2
Combine the main ingredients.
Once the sugar water has cooled, add one-third cup of aloe vera gel and half a teaspoon of your chosen carrier oil (either apricot kernel oil or fractionated coconut oil). Stir gently until the mixture is smooth and even.
3
Add the essential oils.
Drop in five drops each of lavender and rosemary essential oils. Mix slowly to help the oils blend evenly into the spray. This is my favourite part, the fragrance starts to lift, and it instantly feels calming and refreshing.
4
Transfer to your spray bottle.
Using a small funnel, pour the mixture into your 8-ounce fine mist bottle. Secure the nozzle and give it a gentle shake to combine everything.
5
How to apply.
This spray works beautifully on both damp and dry hair. To get the best results with your DIY anti-frizz hair spray, mist lightly onto towel-dried or dry hair and style as usual. You can also spritz a small amount onto dry hair during the day to refresh and soften. Hold the bottle around 6 - 8 inches away, mist lightly, then run your fingers or a wide-tooth comb through your hair to distribute it evenly. Style as usual, the result is soft, smooth, and naturally tamed hair without stiffness.

Why These Ingredients Work

Aloe vera gel helps your hair stay in place, but in a soft, natural way, not stiff or heavy. It adds much-needed moisture to dry strands and helps reduce frizz. Packed with plant goodness and vitamins, it nourishes both your hair and scalp gently. I love using it because it leaves my hair feeling calm, silky, and never sticky. Sometimes I even smooth a small amount on the ends when they feel dry and it works.

Warm water helps the sugar dissolve faster, creating a smooth, even blend. It also helps everything mix together beautifully so your spray feels light, cooling, and refreshing when you apply it.

Sugar might sound like an unusual ingredient for hair, but it’s what gives this spray its soft, flexible hold. It works as a natural styling helper, adding light control and shine without stiffness. On humid or rainy days, I find it especially useful as it keeps my hair feeling smooth, balanced, and cared for.

Lavender essential oil brings a gentle, floral aroma that feels comforting and serene. It gives the spray a lovely sense of calm, turning every spritz into a mini self-care moment. I love that it makes styling my hair feel relaxing instead of rushed even though it’s a small detail that brightens my mood.

Rosemary essential oil adds a clean, herbal scent that feels refreshing and energising. It helps give the blend a sense of lightness and renewal, especially when used in the morning or before styling. The fragrance always makes me feel a little more awake and ready for the day.

Both carrier oils help soften and smooth the hair by locking in moisture. Apricot kernel oil is perfect for thick, coarse, dry, or curly hair making it feel rich and gives strands a softer, fuller look. Fractionated coconut oil is best for fine to medium hair since it’s lightweight, easily absorbed, and leaves a soft finish without greasiness.
