Our Scientific Review Process
At N-essentials, we want our educational content to be practical, easy to understand and grounded in accepted cosmetic science. That is why selected content is reviewed by Jacinta Meyers, Principal Scientist at The F.A.C.T.S Group, before it displays her endorsement.
This page explains what that endorsement means, how the review is carried out and which types of N-essentials content may be endorsed.
What does endorsement mean?
When a piece of content is endorsed by Jacinta, it means she has reviewed that specific material in her professional capacity as a cosmetic scientist.
Her endorsement confirms that, in her professional opinion, the scientific information is accurate, appropriately supported and consistent with accepted cosmetic science based on the knowledge available at the time of review.
The endorsement applies only to the individual article, guide, recipe or other resource that Jacinta reviewed. It does not mean that she endorses every statement or product on the N-essentials website.
How does the review process work?
1. N-essentials prepares the content
Our team prepares a completed educational resource, such as an ingredient guide, formulation guide, recipe or frequently asked questions page.
2. The content is submitted for scientific review
Jacinta reviews the material and considers matters such as:
- whether the scientific information is accurate;
- whether statements are appropriately supported;
- whether ingredient functions and properties are described correctly;
- whether important safety or usage information is missing;
- whether formulation instructions and recommendations are scientifically reasonable;
- whether any wording could be inaccurate, unclear or misleading; and
- whether the content is useful and understandable for its intended audience.
3. Feedback and corrections are provided
If changes are needed, Jacinta provides written feedback. N-essentials then updates the content and may submit it for a further review.
4. Endorsement is granted or declined
Endorsement is given only when Jacinta is satisfied that the content meets appropriate scientific standards.
Jacinta retains her professional independence throughout the process. She may decline to endorse content if she considers it scientifically inaccurate, misleading, insufficiently supported or otherwise unsuitable for endorsement.
What types of content may be endorsed?
The scientific review process applies to selected N-essentials educational content relating to cosmetic ingredients, formulation techniques, skincare, haircare and aromatherapy.
Endorsed content may include:
- ingredient guides;
- formulation and usage guides;
- recipe kits and DIY formulations;
- answer pages and FAQs;
- educational blog articles; and
- downloadable educational resources.
Not every page or resource published by N-essentials is scientifically endorsed. Unless an endorsement is clearly displayed on the content itself, visitors should not assume that the material has been reviewed by Jacinta.
What is not covered by the endorsement?
Unless expressly stated otherwise, the endorsement does not apply to:
- product descriptions;
- advertisements or promotional campaigns;
- customer testimonials or reviews;
- general marketing claims;
- content created or changed after Jacinta’s review; or
- N-essentials as a business or its entire product range.
The endorsement is a professional scientific review of educational content. It is not:
- medical advice;
- regulatory approval;
- laboratory testing of a product;
- product certification;
- a guarantee of results; or
- a substitute for advice from a qualified healthcare professional.
What happens if endorsed content is changed?
Minor changes that do not affect the scientific meaning—such as correcting spelling, improving formatting or updating links—generally do not require another scientific review.
However, content must be reviewed again if a change could affect its scientific meaning. This may include changes to:
- ingredient quantities or usage rates;
- safety information or warnings;
- ingredient functions or claimed benefits;
- formulation methods;
- storage or shelf-life information; or
- directions and usage recommendations.
The endorsement should not continue to be displayed on materially changed content until the updated version has been reviewed and approved.
Keeping endorsed content current
Scientific knowledge and accepted industry practices can change over time. Endorsed content may therefore be updated or submitted for another review when new evidence, regulatory guidance or relevant scientific information becomes available.
An endorsement reflects Jacinta’s professional opinion based on the version of the content and the scientific knowledge available at the time it was reviewed.
How to identify endorsed content
Content that has completed the review process will display a clear endorsement statement identifying Jacinta Meyers, Principal Scientist at The F.A.C.T.S Group, as the Reviewing Scientist.
The endorsement applies only to the version of the content on which that statement appears.
About the Reviewing Scientist
Jacinta Meyers is the Principal Scientist at The F.A.C.T.S Group, a cosmetic testing and scientific consultancy. She reviews selected N-essentials educational resources in her professional capacity and exercises independent scientific judgement when deciding whether content is suitable for endorsement.
N-essentials has a commercial arrangement with The F.A.C.T.S Group for this scientific review service. Payment for the review does not guarantee endorsement, and Jacinta may require changes or decline to endorse material that does not meet appropriate scientific standards.
